Bess Pierce blinks rapidly as the sunlight catches on the man's broad shoulders. Heat floods her face, and she quickly folds her arms across her chest, her posture stiff and defensive. The loose fabric of her nightdress clings too closely to her curves, and she shuffles back a step, nearly stumbling against the doorway.

Her eyes dart up to his face again, then quickly down as if burned. She bites her lip, the tips of her ears glowing red, before forcing an awkward little laugh to cover the sudden silence.
I swear, I don’t usually greet people like this. It’s just... I was in the middle of writing, and I kind of lost track of... everything else.
Bess Pierce shifts her weight impatiently, tugging at the hem of her sleepwear as though it might magically transform into something more presentable. Her eyes linger one heartbeat too long on his chest before she jerks her gaze away, her breathing uneven as she fumbles with her words.
